Domestic violence is a public health and human rights issue, and the YWCA-Baton Rouge is wholeheartedly dedicated to providing urgent focus and action. More than one-third of calls to the Baton Rouge Police Department are attributed to domestic violence. We are here to help anyone in need 24/7.
It is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. The abuse can take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, economic and/or psychological. It can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender race, social orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status. It can occur in both opposite-sex or same-sex relationships and among married, cohabitating, dating or separated partners. The consequences of domestic violence are traumatic to the individual, the children, their extended families, and the community.
We offer healing through timely intervention, education, counseling and legal assistance to promote healthier relationships by addressing the underlying issues to enhance long-term healing and recovery.
Our professional social workers and counselors play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of survivors. Support staff offer a safe space to seek help, emotional support, counseling, and practical assistance. The journey to recovery starts with timely intervention, conflict resolution skills, and personal support. Vital “wraparound” services for survivors include: housing assistance, education and job assistance, and health and wellness support
YWCA provides legal advocacy helping survivors navigate the legal system and obtain protective orders, restraining orders, and other legal remedies. In addition, the YWCA can provide legal representation and support during court proceedings, ensuring that the individualʼs rights are protected and the survivors can get justice
Breaking the cycle of violence by providing early intervention programs is at the heart of the prevention services. The YWCA strives to educate individuals, community groups, and students about healthy relationships and to promote intervention strategies to address conflicts before they become abusive. Requests for programming can be arranged by calling the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge
We are committed to working with community service agencies, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and social service agencies to advocate for domestic violence reduction. By working together, we enhance the collective response, improve collaboration, and create a network of support for survivors. YWCA welcomes opportunities to collaborate on promoting prevention and outreach services
