What Is The Workforce Development Program?

YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge Workforce Development Program offers real comprehensive Careers and Employment solutions geared towards YWCA participants and members of the communities we serve. Our ultimate goal is to build a sustainable bridge between the community and the organization to support workforce development and share resources to offer creative programming, and promote generational economic advancement.

Participants in these programs also develop life skills to learn the art of reciprocal relationship building. YWCA takes a holistic approach to workforce development and welcomes community partners that mirror our vision and mission to help individuals, families, and the community.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Child Development Assistant
Certification (CDA)

The CDA is a competency based credential awarded to individuals who work with children ages birth to 3 years, which is the best first step for early childhood education teachers. With this program, participants are given resources to complete the program and can gain skills to move up in the Early Childhood Education field.

Certified Nurse Assistant Credentials (CNA)

As part of the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge Workforce Development Program, we help interested participants earn the basic CNA credential. Through hands-on clinical experiences at extended care facilities, participants learn basic skills including body mechanics, nutrition, infection control, communication and patient rights. The CNA is a first step in a healthcare career that can lead to home health aide, licensed vocational nurse, registered nurse, and other professions.

Phlebotomy

One of the YWCA Workforce Developmentʼs goals is to provide opportunities for participants to be successful through accessible, high quality student-centered programs and services to meet the educational, cultural and workforce needs of a diverse community. This goal will be accomplished
with a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with clinical affiliates offering a Phlebotomy curriculum to provide hands-on experience in lab and clinical settings, a key component of the program which allows participants to put their education into practice.

Transportation Worker
Identification Credential (TWC)

YWCA Workforce Development Program will partner with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Hazard provide training for participants who want to achieve the TWIC credential, specifically for those who want to work in the transportation-related fields, such as trucking, aviation, railroads,
maritime, and pipeline industries. A hazmat endorsement can also be added, further widening the scope of work for these participants.

Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

YWCA Workforce Development Program will assist participants in acquiring the qualifications and certifications to help launch a successful career in truck driving. They will receive an industry-recognized education, combining classroom instructions and on-the-road training from top instructors, leading towards highly rewarding employment opportunities.

Construction Basis

The YWCA Workforce Development Program is devoted to the success of our participants and will provide mentorship opportunities designed to increase their knowledge in the basics of construction jobs such as trade-specific skills, hand-eye coordination, proficiency in math and reading, familiarity with safety protocols, strength and stamina, etc.

Earning a HiSet / GED

Through a partnership with BRCC, participants will receive basic literacy classes and access to training opportunities while improving their literacy skills thereby increasing their ability to earn their GED or high school equivalency. This program is free to participants and offered via Zoom during the day and in the evening. Free tutoring is also available to our participants.

Financial Education

In that financial wellness is a key piece of an individualʼs wellbeing, the YWCA Workforce Development Program will help participants enhance their financial skills and acquire the knowledge needed to make financial decisions through in person and online workshops.

Resume Building

Participants will participate in workshops designed to help them understand the recruitment process, brainstorm ways to display their strengths, and create resumes that fit perfectly to what their career goals are.

Employment Training

YWCA Workforce Development will offer participants training opportunities for personal and professional development, gaining new skills, increasing productivity and performance, and improving employee retention through various training initiatives. We are excited to offer a variety of career services and workforce development opportunities for our participants, including legal services and providing scholarships to cover costs such as drug testing, background checks, and other supportive services.
